Singer-songwriter Avery Lynch has just released her latest single, "Rain," under RECORDS. This evocative track paints a vivid picture of her personal journey, blending cinematic storytelling with raw, emotional depth. Hailing from Pennsylvania, Avery began creating music at the age of seven, and over the years has crafted a signature sound that’s both romantic and introspective. Dubbed the “happy girl filled with sad songs,” she has spent recent years building a devoted fanbase, many of whom have inspired her work. With over 100 million streams to her name, Avery’s unique blend of vulnerability and sincerity has earned her a dedicated following. We had the opportunity to catch up with her to discuss the story behind her new single and her overall artistry:

Do you find writing personal songs like "Rain" therapeutic? Does it ever get scary sharing such a vulnerable side of yourself?

Writing songs like "Rain" is always a little scary because then I’m letting people in on a very personal experience and leaving that up to other people’s judgement. I do also love it though because when you release songs like that, you find out how many other people were in that position and you end up helping so many people in doing so. It also always feels great to turn an experience like that into a thought-out, carefully-constructed song like "Rain."

What was the most fun part about creating "Rain?" What was the biggest obstacle you had to figure out when making it?

The most fun part was definitely in production. Getting the piano recorded and watching my producer, Ariza, add cello and the most beautiful musical components to this song was such a magical experience. The biggest obstacle was probably in writing the song. "Rain" originally started out as just one line based on the concept of wishing I could make it rain so I wouldn’t have to go on a date. I had that idea in my notes for years and when I was writing it, I felt like I had one chance to tell this story and depict this concept perfectly and I had to get all the words and all the emotions right so that it felt right.

What does rain symbolize to you in your track and why did you choose that specific imagery?

"Rain," to me, is about wanting to take a “rain check” but in a literal sense. I didn’t want to go on that date so badly that I wished I could’ve made it rain so I'd have an excuse not to go.

How do you feel like your songwriting has evolved over the years?

I feel like I’ve become a much stronger songwriter. I tell stories and convey feelings that I don’t think I could’ve done a few years ago. My writing is more mature and my instrumentation is more complex and I feel like my songs feel like art to me.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about you and your work?

I don’t know if this would be considered a misconception but I am so hands on in the entirety of my music and everything that goes into each release and I love it! Most of my visuals (cover art/canvases/lyric videos/etc.) are all done by me and I normally have my producer/boyfriend, Jordan, take them while I direct and edit. I also do all of the vocal production on my songs, meaning I record and edit my own vocals, and I’m also super hands on in the production and mixing process. I love it so much, and every part of it is so much fun.

You just announced your mini tour. What are you looking to the most on it?

Seeing fans! They’re my favorite part of everything to be honest, and I can’t wait to see them.

Who are some artists you are currently listening to?

Sleeping At Last, Holly Humberstone, and Mori.

What do you hope to accomplish this year?

I have some songs planned out for 2025 and I hope they reach people. I also hope I continue to grow as an artist!

What advice do you wish you had when you were starting out in the music industry?

To always release a song even if it doesn’t have a viral moment!
