REGINA SPEKTOR AT THE BELASCO • GALLERY
Regina Spektor brought her warm, down-to-earth energy to The Belasco on February 22nd. Even before the doors opened, she had a line of fans that felt like it had no end, waiting outside to catch her concert. Needless to say, the show was sold out, and you could feel it in just how packed the space was.
Her setlist largely consisted of songs from her album Songs, such as Samson, Reading Time With Pickle, Prisoners, Consequence of Sounds, Lounge, Oedipus, Aching to Pupate, Daniel Cowman, and Lacrimosa. Her piano playing gave off a feeling as if it was sending you back to joyful moments in your childhood. The stories she'd tell in between songs were engaging as well. Her songs themselves felt like stories in a book, filled with vivid details.
Her witty sense of humor in her music can also make anyone's day better. You can also tell her fans love her from how they wished her a happy birthday. Her smile makes the room brighter, and you can feel it from just one concert that she's a genuine person.
She's an artist worth checking out, especially if you read a lot of fairytales as a kid. Can't wait to see what songs she writes next!
