A fantastic way to discover emerging talent in LA is by attending KCRW’s School Night series. Hosted midweek—hence the name—this event has launched the careers of numerous Grammy-winning and chart-topping artists, including blackbear, Doja Cat, Yungblud, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa, among others. Celebrating over a decade of showcasing new music, we were thrilled to be invited by 1824 and KCRW to experience Chinchilla’s first U.S. performance, along with captivating sets from Beatrix and Skylar Simone. Check out each artist below:

Beatrix

Beatrix, an LA-based singer-songwriter, captivated the audience with her heartfelt indie songs as she opened the night. Dressed in striking clown makeup that added a whimsical touch to her emotional delivery, she left the crowd deeply moved. Highlighting tracks from her EP Vertigo, she concluded her set with a touching rendition of The Beatles’ classic “Across the Universe.”

Skylar Simone

If you're searching for a fiery artist who can light up any room with positive energy, look no further than Skylar Simone. Her unique blend of hip hop, R&B, and pop pays homage to icons like Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. It’s no surprise she delivered a stunning performance of “If I Ain’t Got You,” showcasing her powerful vocals. Making her live debut with her EP Shiver, she owned the stage with confidence and charisma, leaving the audience amped up.

Chinchilla

Chinchilla, a UK-based artist, is the ultimate powerhouse. With her unique blend of rock and pop, she delivers a beautifully raspy performance that commands attention. While waiting in line, I overheard fans of all ages buzzing with excitement at her long-awaited debut in the U.S., and she even brought her entire band along for the occasion. Someone standing next to me remarked that watching Chinchilla perform felt akin to witnessing Elton John’s debut in the States—a high compliment that any artist.
